Saturday, September 19, 2026 marked an important milestone for Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth as the Central Region held its inaugural tournament at Lake Limestone.
A total of 47 teams took to the water from the #2 Boat Ramp for Stop #1 of the 2026-2027 season, officially kicking off a brand-new chapter of Youth competition in Central Texas.
Anglers were greeted by a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze, but comfortable conditions above the water did not necessarily translate to an easy bite below it. Lake Limestone made plenty of teams work for their fish, and the day proved challenging for many anglers.
Even so, 84 fish were caught, some quality bags made their way to the scales, and the first Central Region champions of the season were crowned.

The Central Region AOY Race Is Underway
With the inaugural tournament officially in the books, the 2026-2027 Central Region Angler of the Year races have begun in both the High School and Junior Divisions.
Stop #1 establishes the first standings of the season, but there is a lot of fishing still ahead. Every tournament will matter as teams work toward the top of the standings and eventually the Central Regional Championship.

This is a busy month across the organization. All four Youth Regions will fish Stop #1 in September, Youth and College registration remains open, and the mandatory Youth Fundraiser will officially launch for each region at its first tournament.
In other words, we are not easing into this season. We are getting right after it.

These first tournaments are more than just the beginning of another season. They are the first opportunity for High School and Junior teams to begin building their 2026-2027 Angler of the Year standings, compete for cash payouts, and start working toward qualification for the 2027 Regional and State Championships.
If you have not registered for your region or your first tournament yet, now is the time to get it handled.
Registration Is Still Open for Youth Anglers
Returning anglers and new teams can still join us for the 2026-2027 season.
Youth anglers compete within one or more of our four regions:
Central | Northeast | Northwest | Southeast
Once your Fishing Chaos account is established and your school or club has been activated, you can register for your region and upcoming tournaments.
If you are still getting everything set up, visit the Registration Section of our website for instructions for anglers, Boat Captains, and Club Advisors.
Do not wait until tournament week to discover that an account, waiver, school activation, or Boat Captain registration still needs attention. Get those pieces squared away now so tournament week can be about fishing.
Mandatory Youth Fundraiser Launches at Stop #1
September also marks the beginning of the 2026-2027 Mandatory Youth Fundraiser.
The fundraiser will officially launch for each region at its Stop #1 tournament, which means:
Central Region: Launches September 19
Northwest Region: Launches September 19
Northeast Region: Launches September 26
Southeast Region: Launches September 26
Anglers can prepare ahead of time by creating their Raise 365 account, joining the fundraiser using their regional code, connecting a parent or guardian, and adding the required contacts.
Once your region’s fundraiser launches, it is time to participate.
There is no minimum dollar amount an angler must personally raise. The requirement is participation. Anglers must share with a minimum of 25 eligible contacts and participate fully in the fundraiser, or complete the available Buy Out option. Anglers who do not fulfill the fundraiser requirement or Buy Out option will not be eligible for the 2027 Regional or State Championships.
Funds raised go directly back into Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth to help operate our tournaments and provide cash prizes for our young anglers.

College Anglers, Registration Is Still Open Too
September may belong to the Youth Division on the tournament calendar, but College Division registration is still open for the 2026-2027 season.
College competition begins later this fall, with Stop #1 scheduled for
Saturday, November 21 at Lake Waco, launching from Twin Bridges Park.
If you are planning to compete this season, there is no reason to wait until November to get your team set up. Complete your College registration, review the current rules and waiver requirements, and get the administrative work out of the way now.
The College Division will compete in four qualifying tournaments followed by the 2027 College State Championship, so September is the perfect time to get your season plans in place.
A New Season Starts Now
For some anglers, September means getting back on familiar water with a familiar teammate. For others, it will be the first time they pull up to a Texas B.A.S.S. Nation tournament ramp.
Either way, everybody starts September with the same thing in front of them: a brand-new season.
Four regional openers are coming. AOY races are about to begin. The fundraiser is launching. Registration remains open. And the road toward the 2027 Regional, State, and National Championships is officially underway.

Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth is proud to announce an exciting expansion for the upcoming 2026–2027 season with the addition of a brand-new Central Region.
This growth marks a major step forward in our mission to create more opportunities for young anglers across Texas while continuing to build a strong, competitive, and character-driven environment.
A New Region, New Opportunities
The addition of the Central Region will open the door for anglers to compete on some of the best fisheries in Central Texas. With new lakes, new competition, and expanded access, this region will provide a fresh and exciting path for both new and returning anglers.
Our goal has always been to grow the sport while developing young leaders, and this expansion allows us to do just that on a larger scale.
Welcoming Garrett Gill — Central Region Tournament Director
We are excited to welcome Garrett Gill to the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth leadership team as the Director of the Central Division.
Garrett brings a unique and powerful combination of experience, leadership, and passion for mentoring the next generation of anglers.
A former fishing guide and fishing show host, Garrett offers real-world knowledge of the sport and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed on the water.
Beyond fishing, Garrett has built a strong foundation of leadership through his service in the U.S. military’s Presidential Honor Guard, where he developed the discipline, respect, and excellence that continue to define his approach today.
Currently serving as a pastor and published author with The Greater Win Ministries, Garrett is deeply committed to mentorship, character development, and helping others grow with purpose and integrity. These values are central to how he will lead and develop youth anglers within the Central Region.
Garrett grew up in Belton, Texas, and now resides in Temple, Texas, with his wife, Tierra. He enjoys having his son Ricky and daughter-in-law Bethany nearby, and spending time with his grandsons, Colt and Eli. When he’s not investing in others, you’ll find him doing what he loves, spending time on the water.
Building the Future of Youth Fishing
Garrett’s vision for the Central Region is clear:
To create a structured, competitive environment that emphasizes accountability, sportsmanship, and respect for the outdoors, while helping young anglers grow in skill, confidence, and character.
He will work alongside the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth leadership team to strengthen and elevate the Central Division while continuing to invest in the future of the sport.

Note: The Northeast Regional Championship has been rescheduled to Saturday & Sunday, May 9–10, 2026 to avoid a conflict with the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) schedule. This change ensures all Northeast anglers have the opportunity to participate in this major regional event.

We’re excited to announce two outstanding additions to our leadership team at Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth.
Chris Thorn will serve as our new Northeast Regional Director, and Jonathan Britt will step into the role of Northwest Regional Director. Both bring a deep passion for fishing, strong family values, and proven leadership in youth fishing programs. We’re proud to have them help shape the next generation of Texas anglers.
Chris Thorn
Northeast Regional Director
Chris Thorn brings a lifelong love for the outdoors into his new role as Northeast Regional Director. At 48, Chris is an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, and he’s passionate about helping young people experience the same connection to nature that has shaped his life.
Chris owns Lanyard Construction and lives in Texas with his wife Jessica and their two sons, Case (13) and Caden (11). Case shares his dad’s love for fishing, golf, and hunting, while Caden enjoys the outdoors and playing baseball. As a family, the Thorns are committed to spending time together outdoors and encouraging other families to do the same. They are strong advocates for getting kids off screens and into the natural world.
Chris is honored to step into this leadership role and looks forward to mentoring youth anglers and helping grow the Northeast region of Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth.
Jonathan Britt
Northwest Regional Director
Jonathan Britt is a dedicated father of five and a lifelong fisherman whose family is deeply involved in the fishing industry. Together, they travel for tournaments, collaborate on fishing-related businesses, and actively support youth fishing efforts across the state.
Jonathan leads the Decatur youth fishing team, a position he’s held for the past three years, and previously supported several other youth teams. He and his family also run sLiK Baits, a custom bait and rod manufacturing business, where Jonathan personally handcrafts rods and soft plastics. Through their other venture, tourneyinabox.com, they organize tournaments for bass clubs, fundraisers, and special events throughout Texas.
Jonathan is thrilled to join the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth leadership team and is committed to giving as many kids as possible the opportunity to fall in love with the sport of fishing, just like he did as a child.

Northwest Anglers wrapped up the qualifying season at Stop #5 of the 2024–2025 Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Youth Northwest Region season this past Saturday, April 12th at Eagle Mountain Lake! With 105 boats on the water and sunny skies over North Texas, it was the perfect close to an incredible run of qualifying tournaments. 🌞🐟

🏆 High School Division Winners:
🥇 1st Place: Max Moore & Tyler Page – 18.84 lbs, Payout: $3,000
🥈 2nd Place: Hunter Mills & Whitt Vance – 16.49 lbs, Payout: $1,000
🥉 3rd Place: Carson Cherry – 14.41 lbs, Payout: $700
💸 Additional $2,350 paid to 4th–9th place!
